Privacy notice

This notice explains what happens to the information you put into CLEAR Card. We have tried to keep it short and clear.

Who we are

CLEAR Card is run by [legal name of organisation] (“CLEAR”, “we”). We decide how your information is used, so we are the “controller” under UK data protection law. You can contact us at [contact email].

What we collect

• What you type into the form. This can include health information, such as a disability, a condition, medication or allergies, and the name and phone number of an emergency contact. Everything is optional.
• A random card code that is part of your card link, and a private edit code. We only keep a scrambled version of the edit code, so we cannot read it.
• The date you made or last changed your card.

We do not ask for your email address, and we do not have accounts. We do not use cookies, advertising or tracking tools on this site.

Your web browser saves your card code and edit code on your own device so you can come back and change your card. It is not sent anywhere else. Clearing your browser data removes it. Keep your private link so you can still get in.

Why we use it

We use it to make your card and to show your information to people who scan your QR code. We do nothing else with it.

Our legal reason is your consent. Because some information is about health, we ask for your explicit consent with the tick box before you make a card. You can take your consent back at any time by deleting your card.

Who can see it

• Anyone with your QR code or card link. That is the point of the card. Please only show it to people you want to see it, and think before posting a photo of it online.
• Your card page is not listed in search engines. The card code is long and random, so it can't be guessed.
• Cloudflare stores and delivers the information for us. We ask for it to be kept in Europe, but we can't promise that.
• People who look after this service can reach the database to keep it working. [CLEAR to confirm its own access rules here.]
• We will not sell your information or share it for marketing. We would only share it if the law makes us.

How long we keep it

We keep your card until you delete it. This is a test version, so we may delete all cards when testing ends. We will tell people first if we can.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• show you the information we hold about you
• correct it
• delete it

You can change or delete your card yourself at any time from the Make a card page, using the same device or your private link. If you have lost your private link, email us the card link (the address the QR code opens) and we will delete it for you.

If you are unhappy with how we have used your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
